From her first season with legendary show La Clique, solo shows Jazz Cigarette and Alchemy to her cult Late-Nite Variety-Nite, Ali has become an unmissable feature of the Fringe. ‘McGregor’s voice is phenomenal’ **** (Telegraph).'Her voice is a knock out. Velvety, husky, raunchy and pure: McGregor does it all effortlessly and with terrific sense of adventure' (AustralianStage.com.au). 'Money can’t buy more heart, sass and pure, mainlined joy' ***** (Herald Sun).
CABARET
Book of Love
Lindsay Benner is what you would get if Lucille Ball and Charlie Chaplin had a love child who likes to juggle. After successfully touring Book of Love across the United States, Lindsay is excited to bring her show to Edinburgh Fringe audiences for the first time. Los Angeles critics have said that Lindsay not only makes juggling incredibly endearing, but beautiful. If you get to see Lindsay perform live, you are in for a treat!
THEATRE
I Am Not Myself These Days
A surprising tale of love and loss, set amidst the excesses of 1990s New York, adapted from Josh Kilmer-Purcell's bestselling autobiography. By turns brutal, funny and heartfelt this one-man show recounts a time when Josh found himself working as a drag queen, battling his own alcoholism, and desperately trying to make a relationship work with Jack, a high-class rent boy addicted to crack. Written and performed by Tom Stuart (Shakespeare's Globe). Directed by Nick Bagnall (Henry VI Trilogy, **** Guardian). Produced by Herald Angel award winners Fuel.
PHYSICAL THEATRE
Pole
Three poles, three performers and a whole lot of juice. This verbatim piece challenges the preconceptions of femininity through pole dancing, physical theatre and words. Retelling the real life accounts of various women for whom pole dancing is a means of expression, fitness or forced entertainment. This piece, while witty and comical, is also honest and raw. The dialogue is sharp and fiery, so are the women and so is the dancing. Pole turns the Vagina Monologues upside down ... literally.
THEATRE
Quite Violence
A show about blue plastic bags and wearing shoes that fit. Squeezed between tight jeans, jengablock flats and dinosaur ham, a young woman is making bad decisions and an old man is eating too much cheese. They're sharing biscuits on an inflatable sofa: something has to pop. Fast, physical and full of anarchic poetry, shards of life collide in this powerful story of punishment and rescue. Free hobnobs. An exciting new female voice in spoken word theatre, co-produced by Roundhouse. ‘Bold, brave and very special’ (Polarbear). ‘Evocative, unflinching and very funny’ (James Grieve, Paines Plough).
COMEDY
Simon Munnery's Fylm School
Comedy meets maverick cinema as Simon Munnery - 'one of the funniest, most original comedians of the past twenty years' (Guardian) - introduces the Fringe's finest, most daring comedians to a camera, projector and screen. Different special guests join Simon daily in this hit, monthly London night - see online for line-ups. 'Surreal, whimsical and always inexplicably hilarious, this innovative show proves that there’s more to comedy than one man and a microphone’ ***** (ThreeWeeks). 'It's a lot of fun' (Time Out). www.pay-what-you-want.info
